Mr. Aurelio “Gigi” R. Montinola III graduated with a BS Management Engineering at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1973 where he also took his high school and grade school studies. He went on further to complete an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

He is currently the President and CEO of the Bank of the Philippine Islands which was given the distinction of being the “Strongest Bank” by the Asian Banker. Adjunct to this award Mr. Montinola received the Asian Banker Leadership Achievement Award an award given to his leadership in BPI leading the Bank in creating a superior domestic franchise, building a strong balance sheet, creating a stable core and recurrent revenue stream,  creating a strong brand value. He also created the management structure that allowed the Bank to execute on strategy in response to changes in the marketplace. As a result he delivered for its shareholders a consistent “return on equity” over the past 3 years through good execution. He is also credited to have developed a strong governance structure at the board level of the Bank

His other affiliations among other include: President of the Bankers Association of the Philippines; Vice Chairman, Mastercard Asia/Pacific Regional Advisory Board; Vice Chairman Far Eastern University; Vice Chairman, Republic Cement Corporation; Chairman Amon Trading Corporation; Director, Ayala Land Inc; Director Manila Water Company; Vice Chairman and President, BPI Foundation; Trustee, Philippine Business for Education.

His previous affiliations include being President of the Harvard Business School Association of the Philippines, President of Chamber of Thrift Banks and President of the Alliance Francaise de Manille for seven years.

He was keynote speaker at the Philippine Retailers Association National convention in 2007 and a two-time guest speaker at the Ateneo de Manila John Gokongwei School of Management Activities.

He also headed a Philippines-France Business Council Mission to Paris in 2007 and was recently conferred the honor of “Chevalier de la Legion d'Honnuer'' (Knight of the Legion of Honor)
