Meet our February spotlight couple, Jor-el and Karen, who found both their degrees and each other during their time in Ateneo. The couple met in their sophomore year when Karen shifted into ME, which Jor-el was already taking up. During that time, Jor-el would walk Karen to her different classes and help her study subjects like accounting and finance—not at all sketchy, he adds!
Jor-el and Karen have been together since December 17, 2005, reaching a little over 18 years now and being married for 12 of those. Jor-el also opened up about how he and Karen make the most of their relationship, as well as their advice for fellow FAMErs who might need it—
How We Optimize Our Relationship. We make sure we set aside time and energy for our relationship, whether or not it’s optimal in the traditional sense. We love spending time together, and we have so many shared interests. We make sure to nurture these, even if it means we need to go out of our way every once in a while. Our three boys keep our hands full, but we make sure they’re not too full for each other. Every good thing in our relationship stems from our love for each other.
Our Advice for Fellow FAMErs. It’s fun to grow and evolve together. Discover new interests together, and step out of your comfort zones every once in a while. It’s such a blessing to have a loving companion in life; don’t take it for granted.
