WoMEn in Business: Tamika Santos on Leadership and Taking Up Space

By FAME Communications & Tamika Santos, ME 2019

This Women’s Month, FAME celebrates the bold, brilliant, and boundary-breaking women in business who are shaping industries and redefining leadership. First in our series is Tamika Santos (ME ’19), co-founder and CEO of Five Story Group of Companies (FSGC)—a powerhouse holding group behind brands like Hatch Corporate Solutions, Bounce Communications, Frontyard Design, Backyard Productions, The Editor’s Market PH, Romand PH, and im MEME PH.

Building Businesses, Creating Impact

Tamika’s journey into business was a natural evolution. Raised in a family of entrepreneurs, she grew up witnessing firsthand the grit and strategy it takes to turn ideas into thriving ventures. Today, at FSGC, she is at the helm of building and scaling brands that push boundaries in retail, design, media, and communications.

“My role is to drive innovation, create impact, and lead teams that turn ideas into real, sustainable businesses,” Tamika shares. Her leadership is defined by a relentless pursuit of growth—both for the companies she leads and the people behind them.

Defying Expectations and Taking Up Space

Being a woman in business comes with its set of challenges, and for Tamika, one of the biggest was the expectation that she should “sit pretty” rather than take charge. Add to that the bias toward formal experience over capability, and proving herself became an uphill climb.

Instead of backing down, she turned these challenges into fuel for success. “I leaned into my perspectives, relentlessness, and a willingness to disrupt,” she says. By focusing on results and building credibility through action, she ensured that she wasn’t just present—she was heard, respected, and made an impact.

The Power of Mentorship and Community

Tamika strongly believes that your network is your net worth. Mentorship and community have played a pivotal role in her journey, providing not just guidance but also opportunities and inspiration. She credits the people around her for pushing her and her businesses further.

At FSGC, she is committed to fostering an environment where young leaders—especially women—can thrive. “We’ve built our space to be open, supportive, and transformative, allowing other women and young creatives to take the lead in success.”

Advice to Women in Business: Own Your Space

For young women aspiring to break into business and leadership, Tamika has one clear message: Take up space.

“Don’t wait for permission. Don’t shrink yourself to fit expectations. Speak up, show up, and claim the opportunities you deserve. The business world needs more women in leadership, and that starts with believing you belong at the table—and then making sure your presence is felt.”

Tamika Santos is living proof that women don’t just belong in business—they lead, innovate, and transform industries. And as she continues to break barriers, she’s paving the way for more women to do the same.
