WoMEn in Business: Camille Ang on Breaking Barriers in Healthcare

By FAME Communications & Camille Ang, ME 2013

Even as we reach the end of Women’s Month, FAME continues to celebrate the bold, brilliant, and boundary-breaking women in business who are shaping industries and redefining leadership. In this feature, we highlight Camille Ang (ME ’13), the CEO and co-founder of Hive Health, the Philippines’ first full-stack health insurtech company. With a mission to make healthcare more accessible for SMEs, Camille is proving that business can be a powerful force for societal good.

Redefining Healthcare Through Innovation

For many Filipinos, a single health crisis can mean financial devastation. Camille Ang saw this reality firsthand and set out to change it—leveraging tech, data, and business innovation to make quality healthcare more accessible.

As the CEO and co-founder of Hive Health, Camille leads a company designed to provide better, more accessible health plans for SMEs—a sector often underserved by traditional providers.

From Thesis Project to Industry Game-Changer

Her journey began at Harvard, where she and her co-founder studied the Philippine healthcare system for their thesis. The more they uncovered, the clearer it became: millions of Filipinos lacked sufficient health coverage, and SMEs needed better, smarter solutions.

The result? Hive Health, a company dedicated to making comprehensive health plans easier to access, use, and afford. Backed by Y Combinator—the same Silicon Valley accelerator that launched AirBnB and Dropbox—Hive Health is proving that business can drive real, meaningful impact.

Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry

Leading a tech-driven health insurance startup meant stepping into an industry where most leaders didn’t look like her. Camille recalls her first plenary meeting at Y Combinator, where she was one of only a handful of female founders in a room full of men.

Instead of letting impostor syndrome hold her back, she leaned into mentorship and community, surrounding herself with supportive partners, founders, and investors—male and female alike—who helped her navigate the challenges of being a woman in business.

Empowering the Next Generation of Women Leaders

Mentorship played a key role in Camille’s success, and now, she’s paying it forward. At Hive Health, she invests heavily in developing young female leaders, helping them grow into strong, strategic decision-makers.

Her advice for women aspiring to break into business and leadership? “Don’t overthink the odds of success. Find a problem you’re passionate about and put yourself in places where you can make consequential decisions to impact that problem.”

Leading With Purpose, Creating Impact

Through Hive Health, Camille is proving that the right mix of passion, hard work, and bold decision-making can create real impact. By challenging the status quo and pushing for innovation in healthcare, she’s not just building a business—she’s improving lives.
